About DiscGearHQ

DiscGearHQ exists to answer one question well: "Which one should I buy?" Not "how do I throw a hyzer" — there are a thousand YouTube channels for that. Just gear.

Who's behind the site

DiscGearHQ Editorial Team · Gear research & reviews

We research disc golf gear the boring way: manufacturer specs, PDGA data, and hundreds of long-term owner reviews, cross-checked against each other. When we have not thrown or used something ourselves, the article says so.

DiscGearHQ is an independent, reader-supported publication. Articles are published under the site's editorial byline rather than a personal one, and we're deliberate about what that means: we don't invent testers, quotes or experiences. When an article describes how a disc flies or how a bag holds up, that description is built from manufacturer flight data, PDGA specifications and the long-term consensus of owners — retailer reviews, r/discgolf threads, club forums — and the article says so. When we quote a real person (a touring pro, a manufacturer, a course designer), we name them and link the source.

How we rate gear

Every product gets a 1–5 star rating built from five things, in this order of weight:

  1. Fit for purpose — does it do the job for the player it's marketed to? A stiff, overstable driver in a "beginner" set loses points even if it's a great disc.
  2. Value — price relative to comparable options, not price alone.
  3. Durability — plastic grade, stitching, hardware, and how owners report it holds up after a season.
  4. Community consensus — long-term owner reviews at retailers, r/discgolf threads, and club feedback. We weight recurring complaints heavily.
  5. Hands-on impressions — when we've actually used the product. Articles say clearly whether this applies.

What we don't do

  • We don't take payment for rankings or reviews.
  • We don't hide the cons. If a product has a known weakness, it's in the review.
  • We don't claim to have tested something we haven't. Each article has a "How we evaluated" note that says which it is.
  • We don't pad articles with "history of disc golf" filler to hit a word count.

How we make money

Affiliate commissions when you buy through our links, and possibly display ads. Neither affects what we recommend. Full details in our Affiliate Disclosure.
